Cisnadioara Fortified Church

Cisnadioara Fortified Church was built on top of a 50m high hill, in the center of the village. It is one of the oldest and most representative monuments of Transylvania, dating from 12 century, when the first Saxon colonists arrived.

A defensive wall with battlements and a gate tower following the profile of the hill was built to protect a small Romanesque basilica, raised between mid 12 century and 1223, with a nave and side-aisles, a square choir and tree apses on the eastern end.

The western portal has four successive recesses with small columns inside, the entire monument having great architectural value.
